Who are Your Teaching Idols?
I'm once again linking up with Big Time Literacy's Big Time Blogging Challenge. You should definitely check it out, there are some great new friends over there!
Today's topic is such an awesome question for me right now. I just got back from the I Teach K conference and it was so exciting to get to see some of them live and in person! I was not lucky enough to get into my biggest idol's session (it's today and we registered too late). I'm sure she has to be a favorite of many, the fabulous Dr. Jean. I have however had the opportunity to meet and get my picture taken with her in the past because I've actually seen her a few times (unfortunately it's at school). She is probably my only teacher idol that my somewhat ridiculously shy self has had the nerve to introduce myself to!
Anyway, I just love her so much because she is so REAL. She has so many ideas for teaching kids in developmentally appropriate ways. I think that so much of what's out there today pushes kids far beyond where they should be. I strongly believe that kids need to play and have fun while they are learning. Kindergarten is the time when kids need to fall in love with reading and singing and books and school.
So if you want to learn from the best, check out Dr. Jean!

She is fabulous! I only wish that I could have heard her again, I would really like to hear her speak about common core !
DeleteAw. I think everyone loves Dr. Jean.
ReplyDeleteWOW! How fabulous that you were in Vegas! My teaching buddy and me decided tonight that next year we are going. I bet you have a lot to digest. Have a great week.

I agree! We are pushing kids too fast. We are neglecting all the valuable lessons kids learn from play. This worries me as a send my son to kindergarten this year.
