What Are You Most Excited for in the New School Year?

Image
I'm linking up with Big Time Literacy for Day 27 of her Big Time Blogging Challenge.   Today's topic is to write about what you are most excited about in the upcoming school year.   For me I always get excited about changing things around in my classroom, new decorations, scented markers, new ideas that I want to try, and my goal of doing it better than I did the year before. This year I have a little something special to look forward to. My nephew is going to be in my class. He is so excited.   His mom said he was walking through the door singing "I'm going to school" Then he sat to watch TV and wouldn't take off his backpack or put down his lunchbox!   My sister's family just moved back to town this past spring so I really don't know him that well...yet! What are you most excited about?   Pin It

Classroom Pics and Big Time Blogging Challenge!

Image
I went to school today.   My friend Amy told me we only had 4 weeks until we need to be there for real so I figured I should get my act together.  The news was a bit shocking.   I prefer not to study the calendar sometimes.  This is what my room looked like when I walked in.   Please excuse my terrible pictures with strange lines in them.   It appears that the iphone may have been dropped a few too many times.  I need a new one but someone seems to think I should wait until my contract runs out so we can switch carriers.   I don't know how much longer I can live with THIS! Anyhow, I worked A LOT today.   I know my pics are not pretty, but this is the after. The ocean canopy will go above the couch.  It's turquoisish.   Not sure about the colors, but I'm trying! Behind the tables is a little work area.   My Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Tree that needs new letters, and the back of the shelves is going to be for magnetic let

Book Talk Tuesday, a Freebie and a Giveaway!

Image
Hi Friends!  Today I'm linking up with Mrs. Jump's Class for Book Talk Tuesday !  There were so many great books talked about at the I Teach K conference, I wanted to buy them all!  Sadly, I can't afford to do that.  Plus I don't exactly have that much space in my classroom! When I saw Deanna's linky party I decided to buy one book per week for the rest of the summer!  This week the book is the newest by the fabulous Mo Willems.  I love all of his books, but this one is about friendship!  Gerald gets a bit nervous when Piggie makes a new friend, but in the end he learns that it's okay to have other friends and still have your best friend.  I think it's a perfect book for kindergarten because this is something we deal with all the time! You can get the book anywhere but I'm an Amazon Prime addict so that's where I got my copy :) You can get my Text-to-Self Connection page for free here! Don't forget to enter my giveaway!

Field Trips and Reminders :)

Image
Hi there! I'm linking up again today with Big Time Literacy for the Big Time Blogging Challenge . Today's topic is to write about what experiences you would give your students if money was no object.  In this dream reality I'm choosing to also eliminate the hassles and stress too because a girl can dream! I think I would have to implement monthly field trips.  Regardless of the demagraphic area of where you teach, I believe that field trips are beneficial for all kids.  It brings excitement and novelty to their learning that you just can't replicate in the classroom.  Below are some of the Fabulous Las Vegas Field trips we would take! Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay is a great field trip Anderson Dairy - this is such a fun field trip.  The kids get to tour the dairy and it ends with ice-cream! The Springs Preserve where kids can explore the valley's vibrant history through interactive science and nature exhibits, botanical gardens, hiking, trail
