The Best Thanksgiving Ever

Kind of funny, On Friday I was checking out pinterest and noticed that my sister in law, who is a teacher in NC pinned a coffee filter turkey craft.  The funny part was that I had just done that with my class, that day!!! They turned out pretty cute, and it was nice to do something different.

We read The Best Thanksgiving Ever by Teddy Slater.  It's a very cute story. At the end of the story the turkeys celebrate with Thanksgiving corn!  We used a circle map to brainstorm what other types of food the turkeys might like to celebrate with, besides turkeys.
Then we made our turkeys and speech bubbles!  The turkeys were really easy to make.  I just  drew them and ran them through the copier that copies onto construction paper.  The kids cut them out.  They used scrap paper for the feet, beak and waddle.  They colored their coffee filters with markers in the morning and we sprayed them with water.  They were dry and ready to glue by the afternoon.  Last year I did this with my half day class, we had to color the coffee filters the day before.

The kids were allowed to copy foods from the circle map onto their speech bubbles or they could sound out the words to spell other food items, one boy actually tackled quesadilla!

Here are the speech bubbles!

Thanks for stopping by!  Happy Thanksgiving!
